Seven years ago, I mentored a woman who was in severe emotional and mental crisis. One month prior, she felt that she had an ideal life. She was in a nice apartment, living with her fiancé, had a decent job, and planned on continuing her education to fulfill her dream job.
One morning she woke up, but her fiancé didn't. He had passed away in his sleep. This sweet girl experienced a tragedy that most of us will never have to go through. And then one week after she buried her fiancé, she found out she was pregnant. Her immediate reaction was to have an abortion. She stayed in bed, day and night, crying and seeking out abortion options. The finance's mother begged her not to abort.
As a deeper and deeper depression set in, and struggling to function in any normal capacity, she was evicted from her apartment and ended up in a homeless shelter. Without telling anyone, she went to a pregnancy clinic to schedule an abortion. The clinic referred her to a maternity home in the area, which was safer than the shelter. That maternity home is where we met this precious girl.
After prayer, tears, and crisis counseling, this girl decided to choose life for her baby. I spent the next 7 months working with her and helping to transform her heart and mind. She then gave birth to a healthy baby boy and was filled with joy. We continued to mentor her for the next few months, before she was able to establish permanent housing for her and her baby.
That was seven years ago! Today mother and child are happy and thriving. Mom has a great job and is so proud to be a mother. They have a stable and wonderful life together. She is dedicated to her son, and is happy to remain single to give this child her full attention. We are so honored to be a part of her story!
