All of our clients have a heart breaking story. Our newest client has one of the saddest stories we've heard in a long time.
She is 20 years old. Her mother died of cancer when she was 6. Her father is serving a life sentence in prison. She grew up in the foster care system. She had a family who was ready to adopt her, but when a distant aunt found out about the adoption, this aunt called child services on the foster family. She once again bounced around foster homes until she was 18. She then began to sleep on friend's couches, who were not much better off than she was.
She found a stable job and her father came up for parole, which he was granted. They decided to get an apartment together. On the day of move-in, her father announced he had just met a woman and decided he was going to move in with this stranger instead. So she was once again abandoned by her own family. She struggled to pay the rent but made ends meet.
Just before Christmas she was involved in a car accident which totaled her car. And she just stopped paying her car insurance so that she could pay rent. She found out she was pregnant as she was in the hospital from the accident, which added a lot of trama to an already stressful situation. So without a car, and unable to work from injuries, she was unable to pay rent and evicted.
She decided she needed more help than her acquaintances were able to give her. So she contacted a local agency to locate a homeless shelter for pregnant women. And now I am one of the new women in her life trying to equip her on making better life choices while healing wounds from the past.
This 20 year old girl has never known true love in any form. And now she is going to try to raise a child. She is only 4 months pregnant and so the next 5 months are critical in her rehabilitation. I see the hunger inside her to be a good parent and a better person. Some people think that shelters are hitting bottom, but really it's a wonderful beginning.
Please join us in praying for this dear girl. I'm certain she is going to be a success story!
