We've been working with a special needs mom for almost a year now. During this time it's definately stretched our skills in helping to equip her stability. We are thankful to other programs who are now starting to help her navigate the world as well. But this post isn't about all that, it's about her.
This mom, from her perspective, has a very happy world. She is joyful in all things. And I mean ALL things. Change to her is joyful, learning something new is joyful, new friends are a souce of joy, conflict is a joy. In the past year I have never seen her become frustrated, unhappy, anxious, or any other negative emotion. She lives in joy. She has a permanent smile on her face.
From our perspective she has limitations. We would say that because of her limited learning she'll never land a dream job. We might think her world looks bleak because her earning potential is limited which then limits her housing options and safe living areas. But these are thoughts that never occur to her. She doesn't worry, she doesn't get depressed... she simply loves life.
We can all learn such a great deal from her! She focuses on the joyful things and that's all. She is happy where she's at in life. She is happy to be dependent on others. She is joyful to be a mom. She is a picture of pure happiness! Armed with a smile and a giggle she is ready to tackle the world every single day.
This mom is inspiring! Her world is somewhere she is privledged to live, not somewhere she has to live. What if each of us took this approach to life every day? What if we could celebrate every single hand we were dealt with pure joy? What morals would be instilled in our own children by being a role model of happiness?
All of our clients are dear to us, but this one mom is very special. She can teach us all things that are hard for us to grasp. She's an inspiration without knowing she is one. She is a blessing to many simply by hosting joy in her heart every day.
