I read an article this week that said the new "trend" was for women to empower other women. Hmmm, pardon me... as I clear my throat... what?! The more I thought about it the more I was able to gasp what the writer was saying. She meant well.
Some women have been blessed with lives that have been easier than others. I can only imagine what it might be like if you didn't realize that you needed to help another human being, especially one of the same gender. Now this particular article was written in the context of the corporate world. I think the writer intended to say that women are competing less with one another in the workplace. And her observation, and context for her article, was that this was becoming the new normal instead of a rarity.
We often forget to chose our words wisely and intelligently. Words make such a difference. They can scar for life or boost self-confidence. Helping others shouldn't call for a trend because a trend implies that people weren't doing this before and at some point it will be replaced by another trend. But God can always use anything for His goodness. It's my prayer that other women will recognize, maybe for the first time in their own life, that they should be kind and help other women.
Pink Pixie uses the hashtag #WomenHelpingWomen. We use the hashtag because that IS the trend. But once the hashtag becomes obsolete, we will continue to use the phrase "Women Helping Women." We may drop the hashtag but we'll never drop the help. =)
